Local Food and Drink

A quick summary of all the local eateries and drinking holes...
The local fish n chip shop. It’s a sit-down joint as well as a takeaway. It's just been refurbished and is now known as 'Robbie's Plaice'. It’s looking really good. The food is generally of a high standard and the staff are super friendly. It has a full licence, serving draught beer and decent wines. They also open early for cooked breakfasts if you like something more substantial in the mornings. Recommended!

The two pubs in the village are a little lacklustre. The George and Dragon is okay and serves a reasonable curry (the chefs are Bangladeshi), if that’s your poison. The White Lion a couple of doors down is more of a locals’ drinking hole.

To the left at the bottom of the garden and about 10 mins walk over the roundabout and under the railway bridge lies The Crown at Bathford. It’s a really cool pub serving really good brasserie-style food (it is French owned) in a very relaxed environment with awesome staff. There is an enclosed garden to the rear too. Also recommended

Back in the other direction from here, over the river, about 10mins away on foot is The Bathampton Mill. It’s a really stunning location by the river with a huge garden (You get the boat to Bath from here). They also serve reasonable food. It’s perfect for a sunny afternoon or a warm early evening. It gets really busy at prime times though and the service can be a wee bit on the slow side as a result so go there with a relaxed attitude. It’s such a great spot…

Five minutes further down the road from The Mill, located on the canal is The George Inn. Unfortunately it’s now a chain pub, but it is a pretty decent one in all fairness. Again the setting is fabulous. There’s a big garden to the rear but the USP is sitting out front by the canal with a pint of real ale or cider watching the narrowboats chug past. Bliss. The food is okay too. It can also get busy at peak times
